We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Genetic Counselor to join our multidisciplinary team at the Atria Institute in New York City. The successful candidate will work under the direction of Atria medical leadership and a medical geneticist, facilitating and implementing a system to offer, order, and interpret preventive genomic screening and pharmacogenomic testing for all Atria members, which include both children and adults. This role includes providing pre- and post-screening genetic counseling to members and their healthcare providers and interpreting pharmacogenomic testing results to provide actionable recommendations based on CPIC and FDA guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Team collaboration: Serve as the genetics liaison to the entire Atria Institute clinical team, working across multiple specialties to integrate genomic data into clinical care, and serve as a genetics consultant to the team. Specialities include: cardiology, pediatrics, neurology, endocrinology, integrative medicine, women's health, men's health, nutritional biochemistry, exercise physiology and human performance, and internal medicine.
- Counseling and education: As needed for certain indication based cases, elicit medical and family histories, construct pedigrees to assess genetic risk, explain available testing options, including risks, benefits, and limitations, and provide genetic education, counseling, and psychosocial support to patients and families
- Testing coordination: Coordinate genetic screening and testing and return of results, and facilitate referrals as indicated
- Documentation and reporting: Perform administrative and operational clinical activities, including record review, patient charting, and writing detailed consultation reports
- Clinical expertise: Demonstrate in-depth medical knowledge across various medical practice areas, interpret genetic results under the direction of a medical geneticist
- Research and quality improvement: Participate in research and clinical care, collaborate on quality improvement projects, and implement systems to collect, maintain, and analyze whole genome data to facilitate integration into healthcare
- Additional responsibilities to be determined as the role evolves and new needs arise
Salary: $110,000 - $130,000
The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and an ability to navigate the unique needs and expectations of Atria members while maintaining the highest standards of medical and ethical practice.
Requirements
- Master's degree from an ACGC-accredited genetic counseling program is required
- ABGC board certified
- The successful candidate must possess a current and valid Florida state genetic counseling license
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical genetic counseling
- This is an in-person position located in New York City. Telehealth services may also be performed for Atria's Florida location
