Perimeter Behavioral of Forrest City, AR, has an opening for Health Information Coordinator. We are seeking individuals who are committed to improving the lives of those with mental health illness and experienced in healthcare information management.
Primary Responsibilities
- Retrieves discharged patient records from floor daily (in binders and prior records as well)
- Assembles charts for Director to code
- Files transcribed reports daily
- Monitor the quality of the transcription services to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Refile returned records daily
- Shift patient charts in department as necessary to accommodate additional records
- Answers phone in department and responds to requests
- Pulls records for other departments
- Prepares records for release of information
- Maintain confidentiality of medical records, ensuring the release of files and/or records toonly appropriate and authorized authorities
- Inform all facility staff of confidentiality policies pertaining to medical records and remaincurrent on all laws and regulations regarding confidentiality of patient/medical information
- Ensure effective organization and completion ofassignments
- Prepare statistical reports as requested by the Director of Health Information Management/Supervisor
- Assist in the abstraction and analysis of data from the medical record for medical careevaluation studies, patterns of patient care and Performance Improvement
- Demonstrate a professional attitude and support the objectives of the facility's guest relationsphilosophy through internal and external communications and interactions with all levels ofstaff, patients, family members, guests, community and referral sources
- Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel, and standard policies and procedures
- Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled
- Adhere to facility standards concerning conduct, dress, attendance and punctuality
- Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives. Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations of federal/state agencies, Joint Commission, and Medical Staff Bylaws regarding medical records management
- Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding the management and confidentiality of patient information
- Knowledge of computers and various software programs
- Thorough knowledge of medical records coding and medical terminology
- Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines
- Skill in telephone etiquette and paging procedures
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers
- Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures
- Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information
- Ability to work as a team player

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work a 40-hour week
- Ability to sit for long periods, up to 8 hours
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:High school diploma or GEDandequivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience:Previousexperience in information management and/or direct experience in a health care psychiatric facility preferred. One (1) year of Medical Coding Preferred
- Licensure:RHIA, RHIT, or Coding Specialist Required
- Additional Requirements:Handle with Care Training within 30 days of employment and prior to assisting in a restraining procedure
