Position Summary:
Reporting to Chief Development Officer, the VP of Cardiovascular Clinical Development will be a key member of the R&D leadership team, responsible for overseeing clinical development of the cardiovascular portfolio. This leader will be viewed as a strategic partner to the CDO, helping to determine the strategy and standards of operational excellence and implementation across clinical development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee cardiovascular clinical development strategy forward with an eye towards operational excellence in execution and innovation.
- Serve as principal medical expert on Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies and mapping out the clinical development plan.
- Act as a sponsor medical monitor, testing the clinical hypotheses and early proof of concept of assets.
- Assist the CV translational research and discovery Team with identifying appropriate clinical populations for pipeline assets and the design of translational studies to refine proof of concept hypotheses..
- Support the development of regulatory strategies for cardiovascular development programs. Identify and communicate potential risks.
- Develop strategies for complex issues with potential for significant regulatory compliance impact. Ensure continued regulatory compliance of products.
- Collaborate with the Business Development function to help refine strategy and evaluate opportunities as they arise.
- Represent the Company in various external forums as needed, increasing the profile of the Company through outstanding communication skills.
- Read, understand, and comply with all workplace health and safety policies; safe work practices; and company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, Skills:
The successful candidate will combine their expertise in cardiovascular clinical development with an innovative mindset to help the Company accelerate and expand their pipeline.
In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we would highlight:
- MD with minimum 10+ years of experience in CV/HF clinical investigation & development with a deep understanding of cardiac physiology and pharmacology. Experience in genetic cardiomyopathies preferred.
- Demonstrates an exceptional track record of accomplishment in CV clinical development, consistently transforming science into development-stage programs and marketed medicines.
- Experience leading a portfolio of programs at different clinical stages and has demonstrated the ability to collaborate with both commercial and research.
- Demonstrated ability in building and scaling a clinical development team and organization.
- Develops strong cross-functional working relationships with a diverse team of senior leaders.
- Experience in successfully managing the interfaces with discovery, translational, early/late-stage development, regulatory, safety and clinical operations organizations.
- Brings a global perspective with experience in regulatory filings in US and EU.
- Closely connected with key stakeholders globally (regulators, KOLs, universities, VCs, biotechnology companies, clinical community, patient groups, policymakers).
- Makes smart decisions, places strategic bets, makes tough portfolio and resource allocation decisions, to maximize return on investment.
- Builds a high level of trust and partnership with the Executive Leadership Team.
- Has the gravitas, confidence, and executive presence to operate with business leaders. Self-confident, but without ego.
- Brings strong scientific credibility, coupled with business acumen, and the ability to roll up sleeves and dig into the details.
- Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies, thorough knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical/biological product development and approval in more than one key region (i.e. US, Europe).

Salary range: $300,000-400,000, title and salary commensurate with experience
