The Senior Vice President, Operations (Baltimore - Washington DC) is responsible for complete oversight of one or more practices in all operational aspects and control. Provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure the practice(s) has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency through VP levels and below. Works collaboratively with the Clinical Governance Board and Board Chair to drive strategy and initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation)
- Provides senior leadership and management for one or more practices.
- Responsible for the entire P&L of the practices they oversee.
- Working in a matrixed environment as the senior operational leader.
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with ASC and hospital leadership, health system executives, and internal USAP constituents.
- Ability to act as a senior level consultant to physician practice leadership, clinical governance, board members, hospital and ambulatory surgery center partners.
- On site visits with facility leadership to review quarterly operational and financial results.
- Negotiates new contractual relationships, renewals, and changes needed to existing contracts in partnership with the Clinical Governance Board and Senior USAP leadership.
- Partners with the practice CFO to integrate operational and financial decisions to drive optimal outcomes for both USAP and the physician practices.
- Oversees and directs the strategic planning and execution necessary to surpass revenue, profitability, cash flow, business goals and objectives throughout the company’s operations and supports the internal goals of the company, including its financial and strategic goals and corporate mission.
- Directs the overall operations of the practice(s) and monitors the organization’s operational success through VP levels for provision to their Group Senior Vice President.
- Supervises through VP and/or director levels and below the proper employee and customer relations, oversight of platform’s infrastructure, development of timely, accurate and complete reports on operating condition of the company, and ensures the management teams for billing, collections, credentialing, information technology and scheduling.
- Leads development, communication and implementation of growth strategies and processes for the platform/division through VP levels and below.
- Ensures the development and maintenance of infrastructure of operating systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate organizational growth.
- Attracts, recruits, retains, motivates, and leads executive management team.
- Provides executive responsibility for leading the evaluation, selection, implementation, enhancement, and expansion of new practice management systems to service more providers on behalf of the platform/division.
- Evaluates platform(s) profits and revenue and calculates risks.
- Collaborates with their GSVP and other SVPs to decide on business strategies.
- Guides and supports their VPs and downstream reports.
- Collaborates with local, regional and national functional leaders in finance, human resources, revenue cycle management, risk & quality, clinical talent acquisition, legal and other key areas.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSAs):
- Master’s degree in business, healthcare administration or relevant field preferred, and a minimum seven – 15 years (7 years of healthcare) management experience in an integrated hospital delivery system or large medical group or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience managing healthcare operation staff.
- Strong experience in management, leadership, project management, budgeting, strategy building, implementation, data analysis and performance metrics.
- Ability to lead through influence and relationship building with physicians.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in environments which require adaptability and flexibility.
- Strong work ethic and verified ability to negotiate successfully with hospital and ASC leadership.
