Description
Schedules orthopedic and spine surgeries for patients with the appropriate provider, time and location. Ensuring the patients are being scheduled efficiently based on medical necessity and the physician schedules are being utilized to their maximum capacity.
Triages orders based on scheduling criteria provided by the physician
Verifies necessity of insurance authorization or pre-determination based on cpt codes provided by physician
Ensures patient has proper medical clearance prior to procedure in collaboration with clinical team
Coordinate appointment with facility and fax orders with appropriate medical records
Schedule appointment in EMR
Completes accurate documentation of all scheduling notes in EMR
Provide information to patient regarding any specific instructions before testing, such as fasting on the night before testing, taking a specific medication, or temporarily stopping medications to ensure they don’t interfere with results

EDUCATION And EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent is required
Six - twelve months of appointment scheduling experience in a healthcare setting is preferred
Basic understanding of medical terminology
Skill/Abilities
Excellent phone skills, ability to communicate with patients and medical personnel effectively and efficiently
Excellent Customer Service Skills
Excellent time management skills
Intermediate knowledge of computer systems
Knowledgeable of medical privacy laws, as confidential information will be included in scheduling documentation.
Understanding of medical terminology and the types of procedures offered at a medical facility
Strong Organizational Skills with great attention to Detail
Problem Solving Skills Required
Demonstrated Conflict Management Skills required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and to talk and hear. Employee will be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Employee must occasionally lift, push and/or move up to 20 pounds. Employee may be required to operate various types of orthopedic equipment necessitating manual dexterity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is typical of a physician practice. While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to risk of infectious diseases when interacting with patients and/or family members. The employee may be occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
